 Celebrating our anniversaries!

On the 6th of November, the folk group ‘Samotsvety” held their annual concert called “Celebrating Our Anniversaries". This name was chosen for a reason, seven members of the group are celebrating their birthdays and various anniversaries this year.

It was not a surprise that the concert was opened with a ‘Happy Birthday’ song. Funny and joyful, it set the mood for the whole evening. The concert programme included the most loved songs from the repertoire of the group. Of course, such an event could not go without a song about Russia. Alla Ekzarkho sung a song " My Glorified Russia'". The words for this song were written by a poet and the editor of "Lampada' magazine Ludmila Larkina and the music was composed by one of the members of the group, the musician Konstantin Rusakov. Konstantin also performed a solo guitar act "Ave Maria". This song is symbolic, it marked the beginning of a long lasting love between Konstantin and Valentina Rusakov who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in June this year. There were other songs which the audience was quite familiar with and those which were completely new. All were received with a burst of applause from the audience.During the intermission, the guests were invited to try traditional Russian food at the cafe of Russian Community Centre. The second part of the concert was opened with a song " Walking Along Don River". The new costumes of the group, hand made by the members Natalia Kromina, Galina Pavlova and Tamara Bazhenova could not go unnoticed! They impressed the guests with their details and were greeted by a cheering audience.

Another surprise was prepared by Alla Ekzarkho herself. She sang the songs “Sweet Berries’ and "I Can't Do Otherwise”. Listeners were so touched by the song “My Dear Oldies” that tears showed on the faces of some. The concert was closed with the song ‘Happy Birthday”, the same one which started the entertainment programme. The concert undoubtedly was a success and listeners were reluctant to leave. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants of the folk group “Samotzvety”, wish them every success in the future and many more years of joy and happiness which they bring us through their songs.
